Nearly 3 out of 4 Consumers Can’t or Don’t Pay Healthcare Bills Immediately


The new findings from our 2023 Consumer Survey suggest that while inflation may be cooling off, the lingering effects on patients being able to afford their care are still present. 

  • 48% of patients have taken some kind of action to reduce medical expenses, including postponing care or opting not to fill prescriptions.  
  • Nearly one-third of consumers say they are “not confident at all” they could pay a medical bill of $500 or more. 
  • About 30% of Gen Z respondents and 22% of millennials specifically prefer secure text messages for bill pay communications.
